MANILA, Philippines – Engineer Leo San Miguel on Tuesday denied knowledge of alleged kickbacks and commissions taken by several individuals, even as Sen. Panfilo Lacson confirmed that San Miguel is the touted surprise witness in Tuesday’s hearing on the controversial $329.48-million national broadband network (NBN) project.

“I really don’t have direct knowledge. I dwell only on the technical aspect. I’m not trying to be difficult, it’s just that I don’t have direct knowledge on these. My participation is only on the technical aspect,” San Miguel said, when repeatedly pressed by Lacson.

San Miguel – along with Ruben Reyes, former poll chairman Benjamin Abalos and Quirino dela Torre – was allegedly a member of the “Greedy Group” that benefited from a $41-million advance payment from China’s ZTE Corp. on the NBN project.

San Miguel admitted to hiring Dante Madriaga for the ZTE project, but denied knowledge about the kickbacks and commissions. San Miguel also said he has not met President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the President’s husband before.

Lacson had earlier said San Miguel was worried about his security and that of his family. – GMANews.TV

“Kung sasabihin lang niya dito yung Nai-share na niya sa aking Information,it’s Going to Be Explosive.”

- Ping Lacson in an interview.

  1. Sen. Lacson, prior to the presentation of “his witness”, already insinuate that the testimony of his witness will have tremendous impact. Now, the good senator is now frustrated.

I think the Senators must carefully evaluate witnesses before they will “be brought” to public.

  2. ^Nakuryente siya….Lolz….
